5 Top Tips For An Off Grid Forest Cabin
Here are our top tips for your stay in an off grid and relaxing forest cabin:
1. Take Your Own Food And Drink
Most locations provide a breakfast at an additional cost, which we personally always include as its great to receive fresh breads, cheeses, hams and condiments to start the day. However for dinners, not all of them provide something. We recommend preparing some easy dishes that you can cook in one pan on the wood stove, such as an easy pasta dish or a delicious soup to eat with bread.
Our personal favourite is making a charcuterie board with lots of nibbles, treats and dips. We always combine this with a nice glass of wine and fresh french bread.
Additional things to take:
- Your favourite tea bags
- Honey, salt and pepper
- Snacks like fruit and crackers
- Chocolate for when you fancy something sweet!
2. Pack Warm And Relaxing Clothes
Depending on the time of year that you visit a forest cabin, having warm and relaxing clothing is always a good idea. In the Spring and Summer you may want to sit outside late at night, so a cosy jumper is best (and long sleeve to avoid any mosquitos!). In the Autumn and Winter, your feet might get cold from the colder temps, so then warm socks are best too.
Additional items to take depending on the season:
- Slippers or flipflops
- Hiking boots
- Cosy sweatpants and a hoodie
- Gloves, hat and scarf
3. Take Something Offline To Enjoy
These cabins are great for relaxation and enjoying each others company. What better way to do this with is by taking some board games. There is lots of games to choose from (classics to the new ones) that you can take a long – making it a fun night of challenges to see who wins! Else you could also take a puzzle to try and complete before you leave or that book you’ve been wanting to read for ages.
Board game ideas include:
- Scrabble
- Monopoly
- Chess
- Exploding Kittens
4. Bring Your Camera
Taking a fully charged and free memory card loaded camera is ideal for a forest cabin vacation. No only can you capture your stay beautifully, you can also play around and see if you can capture the night sky. These off-grid forest cabin locations are very often perfectly situated, in locations where you can look up on a clear night and see lots of stars. This is due to these locations being away from popular areas such as cities. So light pollution is at a minimum.
5. Extras
Of course there might be a few extra items or belongings you should take with you for comfort and relaxation. Maybe you want to do something else offline, such as scrapbooking, journalling or editing photos in the peace and quiet. Or to review your diary while planning your next vacation. Or to even be writing a book! Its the perfect place to visit.
Other extra items can include some of the following:
- Shampoo, conditioner, and body wash (some include this but take your own if you prefer)
- Any personal items you may need (medicine, diary, journal, laptop etc)
- Sunscreen
- Paper plates and cups (to avoid most of the washing up!)
