Best Travel Apps For Visiting Rotterdam
General Must Have Apps
Googlemaps – This is an obvious one of course, which is perfect to use with your gps.
Google Translate – The Netherlands is a great place that you can actually just speak English to everyone and they will very likely respond back in English. However for those moments when you are reading something like a menu in Dutch, google translate is just what you need to know what you are getting.
Trip Advisor – This is another obvious one, perfect for checking out local restaurant and attraction reviews.
Whats App – This app is the most used for communication in the Netherlands. As you may know it is free and and easily usable on wifi.
Buienrader – Check the weather for the day to know when the rain will arrive or a storm. Its great for planning your day better when you know what weather to expect at what times! You can see the predicted rain within 2 hours, 3 hours and 24 hours.
For Getting Around Apps
9292ov – Check out the best way from your current location to your destination using public transportation
RET real time – This app is perfect for checking when the next tram or metro will be leaving the stop you need. The app is also live with any delays or detours taking place.
NS – When travelling with the trains in the Netherlands, their app is suitable and live for real time changes to the train schedules. It’s very handy for planning your travel to and from Rotterdam, as well around the Netherlands.
Parkmobile – This app is nice to use when needing to park your car in an area. You can sign up with the app and start/stop your parking with the zone you are in. It automatically finds the zone with your gps, else you can just enter it and confirm the parking in seconds. This app is easily to set up with your general bank card and the costs get charged one month later.
Rotterdam Specific Apps
Rotterdam Tourist Info App – This is the official app by the Rotterdam Tourism Board. Their app is great for seeing what there is to do and events happening during your visit. Also great for finding tours to join, museums to visit, an interactive map and where the local wi-fi spots are!
Straatnamen van Rotterdam – Currently only in Dutch, this app shares the history of each street name in Rotterdam. They are pretty interesting for those who can read Dutch!
Rewriters Street Art – Follow the amazing street art routes from Rewriters! Their app allows you to check out the street art and learn all about the artists along the way. They have long routes and short ones, so perfect for all.
Rotterdam Routes – I love this app for different walking routes. It takes you back in time showing images of the locations in the past to the present. One I can recommend is their Rotterdam Port City route, starting at Rotterdam Blaak and the famous cubic houses.
Rotterdampas – If you are visiting for longer than a day, we can highly recommend checking out this app. They provide discounts on lots of activities, workshops, shows and restaurants.
City Sightseeing Rotterdam – If you enjoy the city sightseeing red buses that are in most European cities, this is the app you need. Here you can see al the stops and route that the bus takes as well as information along the way.
Kinderdijk Unesco Official – For that day trip to the famous Kinderijk Windmills, you can follow their audioguide to check out the local restaurants, walking routes and boat trips.
Rotterdam Zoo – A easy to use app for the Rotterdam Zoo. It’s all in English and has an interactive map, agenda showing whats to see during your day and facts about the animals.
For Food Shopping And Deliveries
The following three apps are useful apps for getting food delivered:
- Uber Eats
- Thuisbezorg
- Deliveroo
Appie – If you are staying in Rotterdam for longer than a month, you can consider checking out the local Albert Heijn supermarket app for the local supermarket offers. They also offer home deliveries too.
Jumbo – Same as the Appie app, Jumbo is another supermarket and you can use the app to check out all the offers of the week.
