Snow In Rotterdam – December 2017

When it snows, many cities come to a standstill and are not prepared no matter how much salt they spread on the roads. Rotterdam is usually prepared as much as they can, with trams and trains trying their best to keep on time. But thats okay if there are some delays as the city of Rotterdam become a beautiful snowy paradise! The climate turns to freezing point, needing to dig out your winter coat, gloves and scarf. Nieuwe Kerk, Delft

Delft is one of my favourite cities in the Netherlands (even though I don’t visit very often), as it always looks so cosy and old fashioned but has all the shopping and food choices that you need.

Back when I still didn’t live in the Netherlands permanently, we had taken a day trip to Delft to explore and the Nieuwe Kerk was on our list of things to see. However even after a few years it is still a treat to see when in Delft, standing tall on the market square.

10 British Christmassy Things You Miss As An Expat

So it’s finally December and wow has this year gone fast with Christmas just around the corner! We are planning to put our tree up this week! Who’s already got theirs up?

As an expat it can be very hard to be away with a distance from home during those Christmas vacations and away from family and friends who are all getting together to celebrate. It’s one of the worst times of the year to feel homesick. Being abroad for a long time sure isn’t as easy as you may think it is!

For this list, it is written compared with the United Kingdom and the Nethelands from my expat experiences living abroad. To get into the Christmas spirit in the Netherlands you usually start after December 5th which is Sinterklaas, the Dutch Santa.
