Pebbles Cat Cafe Rotterdam: Tea, Board Games and Cats!

Cat sleeping on my coat at the Cat Cafe

Since September 2016 the Pebbles Cat Cafe in Rotterdam has had their doors open to the public. It is the fifth cat cafe that was opened in the Netherlands. What better way to spend your afternoon than surrounded by some beautiful cats and a cup of tea. In May 2019 I visited the Cat Cafe Rotterdam with my mum for her birthday as she absolutely loves cats!

Pebbles Cat Cafe in Rotterdam

The Pebbles Cat Cafe is located in Rotterdam city center, which is easy walking distance from the main touristic area of the Markthal and Cubic Houses. Situated just near the end of the Hoogstraat (High street), it is a great location for day trippers to Rotterdam.

Pebbles Cat Cafe Facilities

Cats!

Well firstly and the most obvious, they have cats! We counted 7 of them during our visit. Once inside and seated, you are free to walk around and take photos (without flash) of all the cats you can find. They have their own private space in the back area, however during out time they were all chilling near the customers.

You can learn all about each cat and their name in the cafe. They all have their own personality which you can clearly see when visiting. Such as the white cat being a bit of the boss kitty!

Make sure you check out all the Do’s and Don’ts when you arrive at the Cat Cafe Rotterdam or ask the owners if you are unsure of something. You can also read them here before you visit!

Food

They have a lovely menu for treats, lunch and a high tea. As well as many choices of teas and most likely your favourite coffee to drink. We didn’t eat anything as we had already lunch plans else where, but saw some delicious choices that others were enjoying. Next time I visit, I’ll be sure to try out more of the menu.

Board Games

During your stay you are free to take a board game from the shelf. I loved this as you can enjoy visiting the cats in a relaxing environment. The cats are very used to customers playing board games, but be prepared for an extra furry player who might want to play too! They also have a lovely collection of cat books for all ages. This allows you can expand your cat knowledge while surrounded by cats.

Extra

What I love about the Cat Cafe is that the owners have chosen these cats from local shelters in the Netherlands. They also have a strong attitude with “Adopt, don’t shop!” and I totally agree!

While visiting it costs only € 3,00 p.p. for the kitty tax, allowing you to support the cats live, play and be cared for at the Cat Café. This kitty tax allows you to stay also at the cafe for 2 hours, unless it is very quiet and they allow you to stay longer. Since it can get very busy, 2 hours is a very reasonable time for a drink and kitty cuteness!

One thing that makes this cat cafe different from others in the world is that children are allowed to visit. Whereas others have a 18+ age limit. Of course for families joining, they must abide by the rules set by the Cat Cafe.

Summary

We hope to visit the Pebbles Cat Cafe again soon – which is of course perfect in all types of weather! We highly recommend to reserve a spot, which you can via their website or by emailing. While we were there it was completely full up, with those turning up at the door having to be turned away.

Just like we mentioned before, this is a great place also for families to visit. All the children who visited during the day when we were there we all respectable to the cats. The cats definitely appreciated the quietness, comfort and attention.

You can visit their website for more information and opening times!

There’s also a catcafé in Haarlem. I wrote about it several weeks ago. In Dutch unfortunately, but still it was the same kind of experience that you had. https://allkindsofthings.nl/kopjes-krijgen-in-het-kattencafe-van-haarlem/
When i’m in Rotterdam I will visit your catcafé. Thanks for sharing.
