Lauterbrunnen
Canton: Bern
The pretty village of Lauterbrunnen is the perfect location for a weekend getaway for couples. Located in the Bernese Oberland close to Interlaken, Lauterbrunnen can be easily reached from anywhere in Switzerland thanks to excellent rail and road networks.
Nestled on the valley floor and with stunning views of the Alps, Lauterbrunnen is an authentic Swiss village. Alpine chalets line the streets, Swiss flags wave proudly and the sound of cowbells can be heard in the nearby fields.
There are numerous mountain excursions that can be enjoyed from Lauterbrunnen, the most popular of which is to Jungfraujoch. Alternatively, a trip to the revolving restaurant at the summit of the Schilthorn for a ‘James Bond Brunch’ is the ideal romantic way to start the day.
Lauterbrunnen’s scenic location is without a doubt one of its main attractions and there are plenty of relaxing pursuits available for those who need a break from the humdrum of everyday life.
With 72 waterfalls in the Lauterbrunnen Valley, the sound of water tumbling over the cliffs will be your constant companion. Be sure to check out Staubbach Falls at the end of the main street. You can walk behind the falls into a viewing gallery carved out of the cliff.
Romantics will enjoy a stroll along the Panoramaweg, an easy trail that meanders through the village, alongside the fast-flowing river and through meadows bursting with spring flowers.
Regardless of whether you want to be active or just relax in the stunning surrounds, Lauterbrunnen is the perfect pretty weekend getaway destination for couples.

Champex-Lac
Canton: Valais
Located in the stunning foothills of Mont Blanc in the far southwestern corner of Switzerland, mountain destinations don’t get much more romantic than lovely Champex-Lac. With fantastic skiing, world-class hiking and plenty of lake activities available all year-round, Champex-Lac is the perfect choice if you’re looking for variety in a spectacular setting.
Spring is unpredictable in the Swiss Alps but when it finally arrives it brings dramatic changes. Melting ice, rushing waterfalls, blossoming flowers and hiking trails surrounded by lush greenery. High altitude trails may have to wait until summer but there are still lots of excellent walks to be had as soon as the snow melts.
Champex-Lac is probably best-known as one of the main stages on the epic Tour du Mont Blanc hike, a 170-kilometre circuit of France’s most famous mountain that passes through three different countries and some of the best scenery in Europe. Of course, even if you don’t have the time (or inclination) for two weeks of high-altitude trekking, you can easily tackle one of the best sections on a weekend visit (Fenetre d’Arpette for a challenge, the Mushroom Route for an easy, scenic walk and a collection of fascinating sculptures).
If you time your visit just right, you might be able to ski, hike, take photos of snow-capped mountains and enjoy drinks on a sunny terrace all in the same spring weekend. The restaurant scene in Champex-Lac is small but impressive, catering to all budgets and most tastes.

Basel
Canton: Basle-City
Basel isn’t too far from alpine landscapes that mainly attracts visitors to Switzerland. This city offers an amazing experience without so many crowds as in vibrant cities like London or Paris. It is a fantastic destination for a weekend to see Switzerland from a completely different perspective.
Amazing restaurants and scenic Rhine river views make a perfect setting for couples. Convenient access to France and Germany allows you to visit three countries during a short trip. You can get in less than one hour to the beautiful German town Freiburg or in half an hour to French Mulhouse.
To make the most of your spring break in Basel, enjoy some cocktails while admiring the beautiful Rhine river. Basel’s Old Town is a must see attraction when visiting this charming city. Try some delicacies with your partner in The Marktplatz and wander around the Old Town’s alleys.
There are plenty of amazing parks that you can also visit such as Merian Gardens or Botanical gardens of the University of Basel. You will find there various plants including romantic orchids. Walking around the flowers on a warm day with your partner is a great way to unwind and enjoy an amazing time together. I am sure this spring weekend getaway will make you fall in love with this city.

Lucerne
Canton: Lucerne
Often overlooked by tourists, Lucerne is one of Switzerland’s most underrated destinations. It’s small enough for an intimate experience but big enough to offer everything from fine dining to casual eats. It’s the perfect Spring getaways in Switzerland weekend location for couples!
Couples will find plenty of things to do in Lucerne, including hiking up the Swiss Alps! Walking along the breathtaking Chapel Bridge is a must-do! The icon of Lucerne is filled with history, art, and incredible views. A great way to see the city is by boat. Boating around Lake Lucerne gives couples a chance to explore the several islands in Lake Lucerne. Art aficionados should make a stop at Rietli Island, home to the Museum of Art and Culture.
If you want to get an overview of the city from above, you can ride up one of these cable cars. Mount Rigi and Mount Pilatus make a stunning backdrop to Lucerne. As you admire the breathtaking views from atop Mount Washington, remember that they were once home to an important trade route for the Romans. Lucerne was also the capital of Napoleon’s empire.
A great place to stay to explore the city is the quaint Hotel MONOPOL located downtown. It has a rooftop bar for 360-degree views!
Couples who spend a weekend getaway in Lucerne will be enamoured with the charming personality of the city.

Zurich
Canton: Zurich
One of the best, prettiest Spring getaways in Switzerland for couples is Zurich! Even though this is one of the most visited cities in Switzerland, it’s filled with charm and hidden beauty throughout. Plus, it’s only a short drive from other nearby destinations like Lucerne.
Zurich is best visited in the spring because there are a lot fewer tourists during this time of the year. Most tourists visit in either the summer or the winter, and spring is completely overlooked. Visiting during the spring allows a bit of an oasis of sorts, as you’ll be able to be amongst more of the locals and experience the city as it should be!
There are many romantic spots in Zurich, but one spot that can’t be missed is Grossmünster Church. This historic site is a spot that you can pay just a few euros to climb to the top of. From there, you’ll be swept away by a breathtaking view of Zurich from above, all the way out to the Swiss Alps. Even if just visiting Zurich for a day, this is one spot that can’t be missed.
For food, be sure to try some of the local delicacies, which just so happen to be extremely romantic! Raclette is an absolute must-try and can be had at the local restaurant called The Raclette Factory. Swiss chocolate is also so scrumptious. There are many spots around the city to try it, including Max Chocolatier and Läderach.

Ebnat-Kappel
Canton: St. Gallen
This part of Switzerland is relatively unknown – even to the Swiss – making it the perfect place to spend a quiet, remote, romantic Spring weekend with your love. Only about 5% of the land here is settled – the rest is all farmland and forest. So depending on your plans and preferences, you could really go all weekend without seeing another soul.
You’ll be surrounded by rolling green hills, with goats and cows and their musical bells passing by. Amongst the trees, you’ll see eagles soaring and swooping. It really feels like you’ve stepped into a fairytale or a perfect postcard! It makes this destination perfect for this Spring getaways in Switzerland post.
There are long, gentle paths crisscrossing the landscape, ideal for a long stroll or cycle and a picnic. You’ll even come across troughs of cool, clear water perfect for drinking at the edge of farms, so you won’t go thirsty. Pop over to the little local bakery for some picnic pastries, but be prepared to gesture, as few of the locals speak English.
You can stay in the little town itself, but the most beautiful option is certainly on the surrounding hills. That way, you’ll overlook the whole scene – and get more Spring sunlight than in the valley.

Ebenalp
Canton: Appenzell Innerrhoden
Ebenalp is special when it comes to weekend getaways for couples because this location nestled away in the Swiss Alps is perfect if you’re happy to hike a little!Seealpsee, Wildkirchli, Bommen, Aescher etc. Out of these is Aescher which is quite popular as it is here that you will find one of the most breathtaking guesthouses that’s perched on a cliff with stunning views of the Alps. The Wildkirchli caves can also be found in the area which were inhabited 40,000 years ago. It was here that prehistoric tools were also found making it a fascinating spot for those that like history.
Ebenalp is located about 5 kilometres from Wasserauen and is a moderate hike which takes about 3 hours. Another way to get here is to take the cable car from Wasserauen which gets you to Ebenalp in just 6-7 minutes. Once you’re here there’s a vast network of routes, ranging from easy to quite difficult and you can choose whichever path you like depending on your stamina. Some hikes can last days or weeks due to which at most places you will find pretty and quaint guesthouses, which provide lodging, good hearty food and facilities for showers. Lavaux
Canton: Vaud
If you are looking for a less touristy place for a couple getaway, visit Lavaux, the largest contiguous vineyard and the UNESCO designated site, that remains one of Switzerland’s hidden gems.
Switzerland might not be known for its wine and yet, it boasts beautiful wine terraces in the canton Vaud near France. Visitors can explore the 800 hectares of vineyard terraces on foot or by bicycle along the road that leads from Lausanne to the famous Chillon Castle.
Facing the northern shores of Lake Geneva, these spectacular terraces date back to the 11th century when the area was controlled by the Benedictine monasteries. A visit to Lavaux vineyards makes for a nice romantic getaway in spring, as it’s a quiet time in the region.
The mild climate in the region is perfect for the lush vineyards where a variety of white wines are produced from a grape that’s called Chaseelas.
Since the grapes are harvested by hand and produced without heavy machinery, the wine-making process is labor-intense and the wine made here is not often exported outside the region.
Since Switzerland is a well-connected country, you can easily get to Lavaux by train from Lausanne. If you are flying, the closest airport to Lavaux is in Geneva.

Zermatt
Canton: Valais
Zermatt is a charming Swiss town suitable to couples in any season, though perhaps no other time of year offers as much seclusion and opportunity for relaxation with your partner than visiting in Spring. It’s during this period of shoulder season where the notorious ski crowds have dispersed, and the summer crowds have yet to make an appearance; making for an unusually quiet experience in this otherwise highly trafficked outdoor hotspot.
Consider a stay at one of Zermatt’s romantic hotels boasting great views of the surrounding Alpine peaks, and ensure to try the local cuisine offered by the nearby eclectic restaurants. While Zermatt is extraordinarily walkable (and it has to be – no motorised vehicles are permitted!), opt to rent an e-bike to cruise through the springtime blooms and make the most of your time in this sweet little town. Go back in time with a visit to the Old Village of Hinterdorf – Zermatt’s oldest district – to see what life was like before it was as renowned as it is today, or visit the Matterhorn Glacier Paradise which is Europe’s highest mountain station, giving you an unparalleled view of over 38 surrounding peaks and 14 glaciers.
While typically being cheaper in price, it’s worth noting that visiting in the months of April through May often mean certain lodging options or activities are closed as they recover from/prepare for the impending onslaught of travellers. This should be no deterrent, though, as there’s still plenty to do and to keep you and your better half entertained on your spring adventure through Zermatt!

Montreux
Canton: Vaud
Monteux is a little town, located in the foots of the beautiful Alps, right on the shore of Lake Geneva. The combination of water in the foreground and mountain peaks in the back make for the perfect weekend getaway in one of the prettiest Swiss towns. It is no wonder that Charlie Chaplin spent 25 years of his life in Montreux and Queen created some of their best albums here. It is a truly inspiring place, which will undoubtedly leave you in awe.
Spring is probably the best time to visit Montreux, as this is when the flowers are blooming and the temperature is perfect for strolling around. Some of the best things to do in Montreux include walking along the promenade, exploring the old town, visiting the Queens museum and seeing the statue of Freddie Mercury.
The most popular sight, however, is the Chillon Castle. This is actually one of the most visited places in all of Switzerland. The castle dates back to the 13th century and is built on a small rocky island in the lake. The best part of visiting the castle is the view from the very top – it’s absolutely breathtaking and perfect highlight for this Spring getaways in Switzerland list.Â

Bern
Canton: Bern
The Swiss capital of Bern is a picturesque and historic city that makes for a delightful and romantic couples getaway in springtime. Founded in the 12th century, Bern’s Old Town is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and features covered arcades and medieval city walls and towers, including one featuring the celebrated 15th century Zytglogge astronomical clock.
When visiting Bern in spring, take in panoramic views of the Bernese Alps from the Rose Garden near the Munster Cathedral, where the brave can climb its 344 bell tower steps for even better views. Then hop onto the Marzilibahn Funicular near the Bundesplatz, or Federal Square, for a ride down to enjoy a stroll along the beautiful Aare River, crossing over a bridge to visit the forested animal park, Tierpark Dahlholzli.
The weather in Bern in spring is quite pleasant and perfect for sight-seeing. The Gurten is Bern’s local mountain and offers wide open green spaces for hiking (the Gurten loop trail is perfect) and picnicking, as well as enjoying mountain biking and open air concerts. Holders of Swiss Travel Passes can access the public transportation for free, including Bern’s trams and buses, as well as enter its excellent public museums, including the Swiss Alpine Museum, Bern Historical Museum and Kunst Museum Bern.
