RET Metro Celebrating 50 Years in Rotterdam, Netherlands

From February 9th to 13th 2018 you could visit the first ever metro carriage in Rotterdam, Netherlands. This Dutch metro first opened in 1968 by princess Beatrix en prince Claus. The length of the metro line in 1968 was only 5.9km long, making it the shortest in the world at the time. These days the Rotterdam metro lines are more than 100km long.

The RET had organised a special metro pop-up museum to visit at Blaak station, so we couldn’t resist to visit!

Smooth Car Rental And Driving Experience in the US

Preparing to drive for the first time in America was something we could only brace for by watching some youtube videos and hearing stories from others. We knew that we had to get in control of the wheel and understand the driving differences compared to Europe from the start of our trip, as we would be using the car for 12 days on these roads!

Once we made it to Salt Lake City with the Amtrak from Denver, we headed straight with the taxi from the train at 04:00am to the airport to pick up our rental car. We had reserved in advance an SUV type car for under $600.00 for 12 days from the company Avis. Since we wouldn’t need it and technically didn’t even want to try driving it in San Francisco, which was our end destination, so a few days short of our 15 day road trip was best.

With reasonable prices and a route through the Rocky Mountains we were hooked by the idea and had booked our tickets within a week of discovering the Amtrak services.

Our Amtrak journey route started in Denver and would take us to Salt Lake City. We boarded it with high spirits and our original schedule was good timing, but even though we became delayed by a few hours later than expected, that didn’t ruin any of our plans. Our first impressions was pretty positive, climbing up into our carriage and choosing two seats together on the left side of the train (as we had researched that track section between Denver and Salt Lake City had the best views on the left).
