Unknown to many, northern Arizona is home to a meteor crater near Route 66. Just off the Interstate 40, east of Flagstaff and west of Winslow, you can visit the protected meteorite impact crater that was created about 50,000 years ago. Formally known as the Canyon Diablo Crater, it is not protected as a national monument as it is still privately owned by Barringer Crater Company. This geological site is well worth a stop on your road trip vacation through America as you will be amazed by the sheer size of it and history.
Called by scientists as the Barringer Crater in honor of Daniel Barringer, who was first to suggest that it was produced by meteorite impact.

Hiking in Zion National Park was one of the top places we had high expectations on our US road trip. As Utah’s first National Park, we couldn’t wait to climb the massive sandstone cliffs within the 24 km long canyon. The Springdale Visitor Center is a great start to your hikes to pick up any last minute snacks or water and that special souvenir to take home! With our 2 week road trip through America we decided to take Scenic State Route 89A from Cedar City Utah to Page Arizona. By the time we were on this route, our driving experience had improved and we were enjoying the landscape and long winding roads through the nature, stopping at each viewpoint along the way. This post shares our stops at the Vermillion Cliffs and the Navajo Bridge before heading to Horseshoe Bend and ending in Page, Arizona.

Oh how exciting it was to plan a road trip in America! Below is the full itinerary we planned out for a total of 15 days – and we highly recommend the route to you. Our road trip is a combination of hiking and exploring the National Parks, sightseeing small towns to bustling cities and stpping at the best viewpoints in our rented white SUV car.
We had to change one of two plans (based on the weather) on the way which has been shown adjusted below.
